My Airtel App — UI/UX Redesign Case Study
Project overview
“My Airtel” app is a mobile application that tries to provide one-stop solutions to all airtel network users. It brings in services ranging from availing customer care service, buying Internet packs, customization of users’ data, tracking balance details, checking history, recharging, managing FnF, and so one so forth — all under the same umbrella. It is all about making things easy for the consumers.
My role
- Research
- Persona
- Userflow
- Wireframing
- Visual design
- Prototyping
Why did I start this project ?
I have been using airtel network services for almost 5 years and have been using the “My Airtel” app for 2 or more years. During this period, on every occasion I have tried to find a desired service on this app, at least half of the time, it tends to be too difficult to find that particular service. There are so many valuable services that people can enjoy from this app; But not only me myself but also my friends who are using this app find it hard to locate those needed services because of the messy UI/UX of this app.
So, I have tried to redesign the “My Airtel” app from consumers’ perspectives; so that customers like me and my friends can easily navigate through this app and find the particular service they are looking for.
Design process
User research
I conducted research to understand the user needs and pain points. The research is in two parts- Qualitative and Quantitative. In the qualitative method, I interviewed some of my friends over social media platforms, and in the quantitative method I took a survey of 15 people using google form to better understand. Some of my survey result given bellow-
User persona
Problem statement & Challenges
Problems
- Messy bottom navbar
- Some important features are hard to find; like Spend Control, Tong offer, Roaming
- It’s more like an advertising app rather than a service providing app
- Quick links and cards section font are difficult to read
- Fonts overlapping
- Unnecessary sections get more attention in UI
- Insufficient information on my account section
Solutions
- Bottom navbar fixed/ Better bottom navbar
- Create a whole modern-looking UI based on customers’ perspectives.
- Unnecessary sections removed
- Introduce wallet section where people can easily save bank information for further usage and transfer balance or data to any airtel users.
- Bring all the offer sections under the same section so that people can compare which one is best for them.
- User-friendly font has been chosen.
- Introduce a store section at a whole new level where people can upgrade their sim, buy a new connection, or handset from home.
- Bring roaming section under services where people can find easily how to activate roaming without any hassle
Userflow
This userflow shows how users will navigate through out the app.
Typography & color
Wireframe
Based on the research, I designed the wireframes. The objective was to provide a visual understanding of this app early in this project.
Visual Design
Dark mode
I know so many people love dark mode on their app. So, I have something for them.
Website landing page
I did not feel good whenever I tried to look over the landing page of my airtel app section. So, I did a make over of that landing page.
At the end, I am happy with the final result. During this case study I learn how to do effective research, how to know more about users' behaviour, where to think outside box and where not.
Before you go, If like this case study you can 👏. That will inspire me a lot and if you have any project in mind feel free to knock.
